Moving to a new country is a big transition. Figuring out what you should pack and what you should leave behind is challenging. To help make your decisions less stressful, here are some tips on how to survive packing for the USA.

Documents: The most important thing to pack with you are your travel documents and passport. Let it be the first thing you pack in your personal bag and the last thing you check before you head to the airport.

Clothes: Many states in the U.S. go through many 4 seasons—Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall (Autumn). Depending on where your school is located, ensure that you carry the essential outerwear such as a light sweater, jacket and coat. Also include comfortable shoes, casual clothing and a few formal pieces just in case you have an important event.

Basic Necessities: These include toothbrush and essential medications. You don’t have to take items such as shampoo or conditioner as these can be easily and cheaply bought in the USA.

Home Mementos: Being far away from family and friends can bring on homesickness. So take with you small items such as a family picture or an item that reminds you of your culture, family and friends. It is a nice reminder that the distance is temporary and that they are only a phone call away.
